How to play
Everyone writes one word at the same moment. If you all write the same one, you win together. If not, you try again.
The loop in four steps
Write a word
Everyone secretly types one word at the same moment. You start from a random starting word, and you write the first thing it brings to mind.
Reveal together
All the words appear at once. Blue is yours. Orange is everyone else’s.
Match or bridge
If you wrote the same word, you matched. If not, you try again, this time writing a word that sits between the ones just revealed.
End where you meet
Keep going until you land together. The path of words you walked is the fun part.
What counts as a match
You match when two or more players write the identical word. Capital letters and extra spaces do not matter. Anything else does: plurals, synonyms and accents all count as different words.
In Classic modes the game ends on a match. In Arena modes a match scores points or keeps you safe.
The starting word and no repeats
Round 1 begins with a random starting word shown to everyone. Nobody writes it. You each write the first word it brings to mind.
After that, a word that has already appeared in the game cannot be used again, whether it was the starting word or something written in an earlier round. Players may write the same word as each other in the same round. That is exactly how you match.
Five ways to play
- Play
Classic Pair 2 players
Meet on the same word. The game ends when you do.
- Play
Classic Triangles 3 players
All three must land on one word. Two out of three keeps going.
- Play
Arena Elimination 3 to 10 players
Match to claim a safe spot. Whoever is left over is out, until two remain.
- Play
Arena Points 2 to 10 players
Every match scores, and bigger matches score more.
- Play
Arena Duos 2 to 5 teams
Teams of two race to complete the most matches.
Add a theme
Pick a theme such as food, weather or space before a game and every word has to fit it. It works in any mode. The check is lenient: if a reasonable person could link your word to the theme, it counts. You choose it on the Home page.
Tips
- Write the first word that comes to mind. Overthinking is how you miss.
- Think of the most common word that links the two you see, not the cleverest.
- Matching is exact. “Light” and “lights” are different words, so keep it simple.
- You cannot talk during a game. The words are the conversation.
Who you play with
For now you play against AI partners and bots. If nobody else is around, an AI partner joins after about 12 seconds and the screen tells you. Live rooms for playing with friends are coming.
